Start with the rooms

A house starts as a set of desired relationships: kitchen beside dining, bedrooms off a hall, garage through the service rooms. The original plan makes those relationships visible. Keep its room identities while changing what a connecting line means.

Follow the air

The mechanical view gives those rooms a different set of connections. Equipment, branches and terminals enter the picture. A room list can describe what needs service, while the distribution tree describes how that service reaches it.

Follow the power

The electrical view starts at a panel and follows circuits to devices. Its endpoints belong to the same house, but its edges carry another meaning. The original placement annotations explain the study; they are not a current installation check.

Follow the water

Supply, waste and vent routes share rooms without sharing a direction or a root. A wet wall makes the systems meet in physical space. Drawing a connection does not yet prove that its pipe fits the wall or falls to the outlet.

Follow the support

The house now becomes a sequence of supports. Roof and floor loads need a route through members to the ground. An open connection between living spaces can remove exactly the wall that a support path wanted to use.

Let the house become a site

Within this detached-house study, the unit and building nearly coincide. The useful larger relationships move outward to the lot and the neighborhood. A change of scale needs to name what became one object and what remained separate.

Keep the area definition

The original money view distinguishes the inhabited house from garage and porch. Those spaces all belong to the building, but they do not enter every area or value calculation in the same way. The original figures are illustrative.

A shared edge is not a passage

Touching rooms are neighbors. Entering one from the other requires a doorway or an open boundary. Follow the public rooms, then the private bedroom chain. The same plan supports both a contact graph and a route graph.

Follow the route outside

The egress illustration follows a more specific question than ordinary circulation. It gives the outside a role and distinguishes the openings being discussed. The drawing explains that relation; the actual geometry and governing requirements still need their own review.

Ask what reaches paper

A model can describe more systems than a permit set draws. In this source study, some service relationships are delegated beyond the illustrated sheet set. A clean reference index would therefore answer a smaller question than complete coordination of the house.

Change the roof, then follow its consequences

A roof comes from the outline as well as the rooms underneath. A changed ridge or valley can move a concentrated support requirement. Renovation has to carry that consequence through the existing house instead of treating the new roof as an isolated picture.

Reuse a plan without erasing its differences

A mirrored plan or another elevation can reuse a familiar room graph on a different lot. Keep the type identity, then record the instance and its changes. Repetition helps only when the model can still tell which house owns a particular condition.

Look beyond the building

Water, sewer and power connect the house to roots outside its walls. Their existence is a separate piece of evidence from an internal route. A diagram ending at the property edge has left an interface to resolve, not completed the service.

Check the boundary being claimed

The envelope view asks whether the thermal and air boundary closes. A plan image can identify a garage or an exterior wall without establishing continuity around the whole volume. Match the evidence to the particular boundary the model claims.

Test the grade as a coupled input

Finished-floor elevation links foundation, entry, driveway and drainage. Changing it tests several systems at once. A useful house preset needs to preserve those relationships when the lot changes, rather than merely produce another plausible floor plan.

Test a support path, not a label

Calling a room open-plan does not resolve the member above it. Follow the support chain until it reaches the ground. A chain that stops partway names a concrete missing decision; a reassuring total weight would leave that gap hidden.

Attach the check to the exact version

A claim that the envelope closes belongs to a particular model state. Change an opening or the boundary definition and the earlier check needs reconsideration. Keep the reviewed version and its evidence together so an old acceptance cannot migrate onto a new house.

End with a question that can be answered

The same house has supplied every view. The next useful check can now be specific: this service, through this wall, on this version. A building model becomes more useful when each connection leads to an object, an obligation and evidence that can challenge it.

About the drawings

The building geometry remains the original plan from THE GRAPHS — COMPLETE. Plan-aligned overlays retain their original coordinates. Topics originally drawn as sections or independent diagrams use conceptual graph projections onto this fixed plan; they are not calculated installations. Original numerical annotations have not been rechecked as current design criteria. The eight earlier manuscripts and their evidence remain in the editorial corpus.
