thesis-50-cd-set-is-one-object-many-views

A construction-document set is one building described through many views: plans, sections, elevations, details, and schedules. Each view answers a different question about the same object. A plan dimension that conflicts with a reflected ceiling plan, or an elevation window missing from the schedule, signals that those views have drifted apart.

Six views read the same building object

Scaled illustrations: 60 × 80 in bed; 6 × 3 ft sofa; 5 × 2.5 ft tub; 6 × 2 ft shelving. Room areas follow their measured envelopes. Door openings and swings are 3 ft.

Four room records and four possible door edges form one floor, repeated at 12 ft floor-to-floor height. Plans show one typical floor; room, door and finish schedules count all floors. Finishes are chosen use metadata. The sheet index names exactly the six displayed views. This demonstrates a coordinated query, not a guarantee that a real drawing set has no errors.

When views come from a coordinated model, a change can propagate across the documents that depend on it. That reduces manual synchronization, but only if the model and its relationships are maintained. Sheet organization also matters: contractors move between discipline views to reconstruct the three-dimensional work.

An issued set is a snapshot. Changes after issue need a traceable update, and the record drawings still have to reflect what was actually built.
