Insurance and Review
Plan review is one point where a proposed building is checked against the rules adopted by its jurisdiction. Reviewers look at issues such as occupancy, exits, structural provisions and fire protection, with the applicable requirements depending on the project and local code.
Insurance and risk have influenced how buildings are regulated, but code is not simply an insurance checklist. It is a legal framework adopted and administered by public authorities, with provisions shaped by safety goals, technical evidence and policy choices.
For designers, review comments can reveal where a drawing set has not made its intent clear or where the proposal needs revision. The useful response is to trace a comment to the applicable requirement and project condition, rather than assume every provision has one historical or financial explanation. The same provision may apply differently as occupancy and building conditions change, which is why the project facts matter.
