thesis-64-developers-are-the-real-product-managers

Developers make decisions about what a building offers, whom it serves, and how constraints fit together. That resembles product management: defining requirements and weighing features against cost, schedule, and market assumptions.

Architects translate and test those requirements through design, bringing expertise that can reveal options or challenge the brief. When the brief calls for an amenity, the architect can test its spatial and systems consequences; when design exposes a costly constraint, the developer can revisit the brief.

The analogy describes project leadership, not a complete division of responsibility. Outcomes depend on owners, designers, builders, users, and regulators working together.
